Louise is a local lass who has lived in the Borders town of Duns for the majority of her life. Whilst travelling around New Zealand she decided a change of career was in order and on her return to Scotland she undertook a 1 year HNC furniture course at Jewel & Esk College, Dalkeith, followed by a 2 year HND furniture course at Adam Smith College, Kirkcaldy. Louise set up her business, Saltire Wood Design, in May 2014 and commenced work at Real Wood Studios, Jedburgh. Louise is very passionate about using locally sourced wood in her work and aims to produce furniture of a high quality in conjunction with the customer’s requirements. The art movements which have influenced Louise are Art Deco and Art Nouveau and she likes to include natural forms and shapes in her work. In the future Louise is keen to incorporate metal, glass and stone alongside Scottish hard woods in her designs.
