From tree to table – the whole process
Alongside our makers studios, we run a specialist sawmill and timber yard, processing and selling locally sourced Scottish hardwoods. We carefully source, mill, and dry each tree to maximise its potential and pride ourselves on our zero-waste approach. We also offer you the option to have a piece of furniture made from your own wood, keeping a tree with sentimental value as part of the family for generations to come.

Customer involvement in tree choice and design
You can be as involved as you wish in the choice and design of your tree-to-table product. Our makers are as skilled at involving their clients in the early stages of their design as they are at making sure their finished products delight.
Hive mind
How we work means each customer benefits from our “hive-mind” – our designer-makers share knowledge, equipment, and other resources to ensure each client receives the best possible bespoke service.
Growing talent of the future
We invite new makers to set up business in the Borders by offering affordable bench space in our fully equipped workshop, along with support and guidance on how to make it a success.
Community and partnerships
Alongside our makers, Real Wood Studios also works closely with local partners such as colleges and specialist furniture schools, offering a unique program of mentoring and support, which provides a vital bridge between education and business. We can host educational visits and workshops, and provide information on the whole process of transforming local trees into useful and beautiful products.
